Boeing is expected to formally announce the third delay for the B787 today.

"Since September, Boeing has twice announced delays as the schedule has slipped from the original plan to deliver the first airplane this May. In October, Boeing said first delivery had been pushed back until November or December of this year."

"Many important components, including wiring and cockpit instruments, still haven't been installed in the first aircraft, according to people familiar with the situation."

"The new delay makes it unlikely that Boeing will be able to get the 787 certified by the Federal Aviation Administration until early 2009. The first delivery, to Japan's All Nippon Airways Co., would occur after that."

Not surprised to hear that at all. Would be nice to see some new pics of the 787 .. there must be a few complete airframes out there.

Nope, I'm not surprised at all either! Complete airframes yes (I think there are at least 2 of them), but not totally complete aircraft though.

Ay-yai-YAI!!!!!

Looks like my trip to Seattle, which started in September of last year, is now going to be sometime during the summer, maybe June, July or August, right in the heart of the Mariners' baseball season.

Well, at least, I can attend a baseball game or two at beautiful Safeco Field ... hopefully they will be having a home stand during that time!

787 one is the only flying frame that is fully assembled

Well isn't that funny to hear. There was Boeing laughing at Airbus and giving them heaps about being late with delivery of the A380, and that they would not have any delays, well who's laughing now they are almost at the same delay time as the Airbus A380 was.

My position on Boeing's latest delay hasn't changed - it is what it is!!! They've bought themselves at least 3 more months' time to solve their problems with their suppliers. I am afraid that boeing's problem is not with the production line, at least for now.
Their main issue is the construction of the 7 test airframes and the validation/certification of the 787 solution. Once that done, Production of the models will resume (rather say start in fact).
I am honestly really anxious to see this bird airbone!
But I am also pretty sure that there will be further delays. The delivery targets announced for 2009 are clearly "optimistic".

True, we don't know about that yet...but since Boeing is having problems with its suppliers, it is a very real possibility. And they will need to increase production rate to minimise the effect of these delays.

These airlines are trying to get so many moving parts (aka suppliers) together as well as work out kinks in design, construction methods, as well as trouble shoot bugs. I cant imagine the head aches the guys in charge must have. I don't see how any airline manufacture can ever predict when they will be done. Its all about trying to make airlines happy and sell the jets. "If I say they will be done in May, will you buy 5 more?"

im over the 787 craze. boeing is slowly pulling an airbus! how much more awesome it would have been if they rolled out a full functional product that taxied by itself to be displayed at that ceremony last year!

That whole ceremony is looking pretty silly at this point. Heck, they may as well have a big rollout ceremony for a sonic cruiser if all they have to do is make an empty shell. They could whip one of those up pretty fast and get everybody's attention off their 787 mess.

Looks like Dreamliner1 is going to need more than those you both have mentioned (based on the pic) to make its maiden flight.

The horizontal stab is there, no doubt. This is the radar that is clearly missing. I also seems that there are still some temporary fastener in the nose area.

maybe im just bitter that i paid $15 to have them only take me on a 1/6th of the factory tour..... I WANNA SEE ALL 6 SECTIONS OF THE FACTORY DARN IT. ok im calmed down.

Just like a very smooth EIS for A380, there's always good news in delays. As for the B787, it's not all lost as 35% of certification has been completed although it has not made its first flight yet:

787 certification one-third complete: Boeing

"The airframer's chief executive, Jim McNerney, confirmed last week that about 35% of the 787's requirements to obtain airworthiness certification are complete. "Seventy per cent of the certification doesn't have to come from the flight-test programme," said McNerney, addressing Boeing's full-year financial results."
