Well we may lose an airline name. Delta is looking into NW and UA for possible mergers with. This should be interesting. What do you all think about it.

This rumour is not new and IMO, I think DL is better off merging with NW rather than with UA.
Out with the old and in with the new, let's see the possibilities... Delta + Northwest = DeltaNorth, DelWest, DelNo, DelNorth, DeltaWest, NorDel, NorTa, NorthDeltawest??? ![]() Delta + United = DelTed, UniDel, UniTa, Delited, DelUni??? ![]()

Looks like NW is serious about the merger:
ATW: NWA giving merger 'serious attention' "Delta Air Lines continued to decline to comment on reports that its board is considering authorizing merger negotiations with Northwest Airlines and/or United Airlines, but NWA President and CEO Doug Steenland said his carrier is giving the issue "serious attention."

Naturally, I hope Delta is the surviving entity. I have a feeling it will be Northwest they will merge with, but that will be an equipment nightmare. I would not be surprised to see UAL sell some of it's parts, since a merger of the three would be too large for governmental approval.

Sounds like a pissing match to me. All I know is if NWA is no longer hubbed in Minneapolis (dont see that changing)my airline tickets are going to soar. Northwest is the only thing out of Minot.

Interesting piece of news:
Amid turbulence, United to trim domestic flights -- chicagotribune.com "United executives reiterated that consummating a merger remains a top priority at the carrier. Analysts and insiders think a deal with Continental Airlines is likeliest for United, though United also has held formal merger discussions with Delta Air Lines. United officials declined to discuss merger specifics." "United's chief executive, Glenn Tilton, emphasized that unless U.S. carriers combine operations, they will not gain the global reach of rivals such as Air France-KLM Group or Singapore Airlines, or remain competitive as foreign trade barriers fall." "United also would consider withdrawing from the Star Alliance, the global marketing consortium it co-founded, if needed to close a deal. "You can assume that absolutely everything goes into the mix of consideration," Tilton said." UA is one of the five founding-members of *A and they are willing to give up membership to merge with another airline? It's also interesting to see a possibility of UA merging with CO!

Delta-Northwest talks hit turbulence at upper level | ajc.com
"Delta Air Lines' merger talks with Northwest Airlines have hit a snag over the respective roles of the carriers' chief executives, according to a person who has knowledge of the negotiations but is not directly involved. Executives have been holding intensive talks in New York to put together a merger agreement in which Delta CEO Richard Anderson is expected to be the top executive of the combined companies. However, those talks have stalled over a disagreement regarding how Anderson and Northwest CEO Doug Steenland would share power at a merged company, according to the person."
