What's your favorite BCA aircraft?
I meant to say B367-80 aka Dash 80 , not Dash 8! Sorry. Note that a B737-73A will be counted as a B737-700 so don't complain... The MD-11/10 is not listed. It's a McD-D a/c by name. Last edited by no duh!; 01-26-2004 at 02:31 AM. |

Sorry, but the "Dash 8" is a De Havilland Canada product.... I know Boeing owned DHC for a while, but that would be like calling the Supermarine Spitfire a Bae Spitfire....
... and the only McDonald Douglas aircraft I will let you get away with as a "Boeing" is the 717.... certified that way, it's a Boeing. The MD-11, is NOT a Boeing! Thanks!

B-727, all variants. It looks as sleek and modern today as it did in 1964. The wing is still an engineering marvel and aesthetic work of art. The mechanicals are, however, quite dated.
The 707 stole the thunder of first commercially successful jet, but the 727 introduced turbine power to the masses via short/medium haul flying worldwide. Speaking of thunder, I'll never forget the sound and vibration of those 3 P&W JT-8D's in pre hush-kitted days.

727-100
Small frame big wings... COOL!!! There has always been something both assuring and visceral about this bird. It looks like it's going like heck just sitting on the tarmac, there isn't a scheme that looks bad on it and it had so many interesting features... Air stair in the tail, 3 engines, T-tail, mid cabin galley...

The 727-200 was a great aircraft. If anyone here has ever had the chance to work(on the ramp) on this aircraft they had a great plane. For the size you could load the crap out of that aircraft and never have a weight problem. I worked a few flights over the years that went out with over 10,000lbs with room and weight to spare.
If the vote is for favorite Boeing aircraft to fly in than I would pick the 744. I've had many flights overseas and the west coast with the 744 and always had a perfect trip. Scott

727-200 gets my vote. Long before the days of CAD engineering, which resulted in an succession of bland and boring twins, aircraft with a sense of character and purpose ruled the skies, including the rakish 727. In an era when competition between manufacturers wasn't as pronounced as it is today (although the Trident is worthy of mention, it enjoyed comparatively limited success - the Tu-134 & Tu-154 basically being available only to Soviet Block-friendly countries at the time), and designs were not developed to the "tight" standards that they are today (manufacturers like Boeing seemed to take larger gambles back then - consider their decision to launch both the 707 and 747), the 727 proved to be very successful and was ideally suited to the role for which it was designed. With its smoky engines and loads of noise, this aircraft could never compete with a "modern" design in terms of efficiency, but they hung in there for the better part of 40 years, providing mainstream service and, as mentioned above, giving many passengers their first taste of jet travel. The prototype 727-100 made its first flight 41 years ago, Feb 09, 1963, and over 1,600 of all variants were rolled out of the production line. Not a bad record for any commercial aircraft.
