Default 747SP's

Just curious.....but do any current airlines still fly the 747SP at all? It is an odd looking bird....but I can see how the price of an older model coupled with capacity and distance might be attractive in some situations.

I know of South African (ZS-SPC, ZS-SPE), Iran Air (EP-IAA, EP-IAB, EP-IAC, EP-IAD) and Syrianair (YK-AHA, YK-AHB) still operating them in passenger service.
Yemenia is operating one (7O-YMN) as a VIP aircraft for their Government and Saudi Arabian Royal Fligth, the VIP division of Saudi Arabian Airlines, is operating two (HZ-AIF, HZ-AIJ) as VIP aircrafts and one (HZ-HM1B) as a mobile hospital.

Beside this there should also be some Governments from the middle east still operating some of them (Oman, UAE).

What happened to all those other 747 SPs? If I´m right 44 of them were build and only about 15 of them are still flying.

Wouldn´t they be suited for airlines like Ariana Afghan or airlines from smaller or poor African countrys for flights to Europe?

Hopefully, they'll get sold or leased to other airlines.Anything will do just to keep them in the air.

I think British Airways was going to originally buy them...suffice to say the crews were against it!

Iran Air used to fly them on some local routes through Europe.
I am not sure if they still do but I flew one from GVA to ORY for about $50. I went to Geneva just to take this flight on this rare airline and aircraft.

Yes they do.
They still sometimes come to HAM with this beautiful plane, but usually they use A300s or A310s to HAM.

I know for sure is IranAir flies their B747SP to Kuala Lumpur . By the way , why is some of the airline's timetable state the B747SP as B74L ? Is there a reason ?
