Talking Would You Pay For A Meal On The Aircraft?

Would you? Presentation is everything! I know I'm setting myself up. This picture was taken in 1983 in Detroit waiting for the Red Wings to show up as it was a charter. I don't remember where we flew them to. We are on a Ozark DC-9 series 30 just clowning around killing time. Dig the "Mod Sqaud Era" seat cushions!

What was it with those orange and brown color schemes? American had an orange, red and brown interior scheme until 1986. They had this tacky farmyard tapestry with a barn on the bulkheads. The sky blue and beige interiors they put in after that were a BIG improvement.

But getting to your question, yes, I would pay for a meal. Sometimes you don't have time to buy something in the terminal. I know you're probably less than thrilled to be handling more money, Bill, as US Airways experiments with meals for purchase. Selling liquor is bad enough for me. I go nuts getting people change. AA charges for liquor even on international now. A friend of mine who flies for Northwest told me about how they're selling food, too. Delta's Song is doing it, and I think United is going to experiment with it soon.

Selling meals may be one more thing we'll have to get used to as the airlines cut more and more of their service.

We'll just have to make the P.A.- "Exact change is greatly appeciated as our change funds are rather limited!"

I do on occasion, and have no choice. Most company-provided crew meals are boarded without charge at the appropriate time of day, however a union rep scans the trips and will add discretionary meals that are payroll-deducted. Don't remember the exact charges as they are aggregated monthly. Something like a max of $4 or $5 for dinner. UA probably has the best meal plan for it's pilots, as the entrees are F/C and the same customer special-request choices are available. I usually alternate between vegetarian and lighter-choice fish for L and D. Cold cereal is a perennial favorite for B. (Sorry, no Lucky Charms, Count Chocula, or Capt. Crunch) However, the former Shuttle 737's galley lacks an oven, so the cold deli-plates are nasty. Que Bueno, Quizno's, La Salsa, and other terminal favorites are the best bet.

Talking Pink Piggies

JP

Yup, I was there last night. He mentioned he talks to you often and brought up the "Pink Piggies." I had to laugh as I had forgotten about that. Well, almost.

Picked up six Star Jets and will pick up another six next week. Been busier than heck lately and had fallen behind on the delieveries.

Shoot ME an e-mail sometime also!

"And suck 'em!"

Do you realize I'm only just now getting the humor of this thread? Am I slow or what?

Here's a pic of me in 1992 in the same vein, in the business class galley of an MD-11. God, what a bad picture! I don't know what's up with my pompadour in the picture. My face looks like an ape!

I'm the one in the lower left hand corner when you scroll down the page-

I don't know what's scarier, Kevin in that Buster Poindexter pompadour or that picture from way back of BillG as a jen-you-wine rodeo cowboy, big belt buckle and all.....
