Hey Travis, Piston52, Dino, Presidential,
-------------------------------------- From "Just Planes News" Delta Air Lines (Jul04, 2003) Announced it is considering Delta Connection regional jet service from Cincinnati to Detroit City Airport. City Airport does not currently have airline service. -------------------------------------- Related article: Detroit City Airport trying to lure airlines with grant The Associated Press 7/3/03 6:28 PM WASHINGTON (AP) -- Detroit City Airport has filed an application for a $1.1 million federal grant in an attempt to revive passenger service, the airport's director said Thursday. In its application to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the airport says Delta Air Lines might consider launching jet service if Detroit wins the grant, director Delbert Brown said. The airport could use the grant for improvements or could help Delta make up losses on the new route. "It's an incentive to encourage carriers. It's really just to get them in the market and get them positioned because it's a very expensive process," Brown said. Brown said Delta is the only airline mentioned in the application, since talks have gone furthest with the Atlanta-based carrier. But City Airport could amend its application if other airlines express interest, he said. "We've approached several airlines to develop service. We're looking at them in terms of the equipment they need and their route structure and what would be most beneficial," Brown said. "This is not our only egg and not our only basket." A message seeking comment was left with Delta. Department of Transportation spokesman Bill Mosley said the department has received City Airport's application and is considering it. Mosley said the department has up to $20 million to spend on the grants, which are meant for small communities. Mosley said Detroit would not generally be considered eligible for the grant because it is served by nearby Detroit Metropolitan Airport, which is considered a large hub. But Mosley said the department will look at the application. Brown said he believes City Airport meets the criteria because it is small and because none of the area's other airports are in the city. But he said City Airport is considering other options if the application falls through, including deals with area companies who would promise to buy a certain number of seats. City Airport, which opened in 1927, has struggled for years to maintain passenger service. The last passenger airline to operate at the airport, Pro-Air, was grounded in 2000 by the federal government because of safety concerns Last edited by tjwgrr; 07-04-2003 at 08:03 AM. |

For some reason, Detroit City (DET) has bad luck with keeping an airline there. Let's see, Southwest, Continental Express and Pro Air didn't quite make it there. I flew out of there twice on Southwest and it wasn't that bad.

If they were smarter, the people over a KDET would seek out ACA (United Express), American Eagle, Midwest or Chicago Express (ATA Connection). The first two already serve DTW but with the new NW/DL/CO code share agreement, it wouldn't hurt to try an airport where they aren't competing with those 3. The last two only serve Flint (KFNT) which is already quite a hike from Downtown Detroit. But, from what I read, the NW/DL/CO code share can't be used in those airlines' hub cities. Anyway, ProAir was actually doing good before the FAA investigated them, the Big 3 used them quite often and I believe GM used them as their official airline on the routes they served.

![]() I wouldn't go to City airport ... to far for me .... it is interesting that SW hasn't been more active here ... they really have a very small number of flights compared to other locations they operate out of. |
