Question America West's new route

On the America West website it says they will fly from Ontario to Lake Havuse City on the B1900. Is ontario going to be a mini AW hub? Cuz they got rid of the coulmbus one.

If Ontario does become a minihub for America West, I highly doubt there would be any correlation to the Columbus hub being shut down. The Columbus hub towards the end of its days was primarily RJ's, and the loss of the hub was not too bad because all the RJ's were transferred to Delta who started routes to new cities in Florida and the East Coast. If I recall correctly, America West said that they wouldn't have shut down the hub had Delta not offered to buy the RJ's AWA was using.

That sounds like an operation of Mesa Airlines operating as America West Express. These Express companies offen get confused for the main Operating airline name. This is a franchise! Look at Mesa's America West Express route map. They operate B 1900D's!

A friend that worked at Mesa then worked at Great Lakes and now Frontier. I remember before 9/11 going on the tarmac at one time seeing those.

That flight will be operated by Air Midwest dba/America West Express. ONT is not going to be a hub what so ever.

The CMH hub RJs were operated by both Mesa and Chautauqua airlines. The Mesa CRJs were transfered to all of the other operations they have going on and same goes for the Chautauqua ERJs. Delta Airlines had nothing to do with the closing of the CMH hub what so ever. They didn't buy any of RJs. I believe that Chautauqua is operating for Delta in Florida with the ERJs. Delta was one of the first airlines to add flights in and out of CMH after America West announced the were closing the hub.

I'm aware of that. The B-1900 operations out of PHX as America West Express are all operated by Air Midwest, not by Mesa.

OK how about this. Go to the America West web site and select flight schedules. Enter the Ontario-Lake Havasu route and tell me if the little icons next to the flight info are not Air Midwest and it does not say flights operated by Air Midwest doing business as America West Express. Evidently the Mesa web site is not up to date because Air Midwest has been operating out here for a while now. I'm not trying to nit pick Craig I just know this information for a fact so that's why I posted it.

You are correct! Damn Mesa. They have always been late on stuff like that. Thanks for the correction.

I know that AWA's RJ's out of Columbus were operated by Chautauqua, but I read in an article in The Columbus Dispatch, that said if Delta hadn't offered America West to take over Chautauqua's aircraft, then America West would not have closed its hub. If America West had closed its Columbus hub had Delta not offered to take the aircraft, then they would have lost more money then they were already losing because they'd have to still pay Chautauqua without generating any revenue out of the contract to use Chautauqua's aircraft.

Questions about America West :

They operated a few Boeing 747-200s right ? Where did they fly to ? Are there any chance of them buying widebodies and expanding their network to Asia or Europe ?

Thanks .

America West purchased 747's prior to their second bankruptcy in the early 1990's. At the time, they used the 747's on flights to both Honolulu and Nagoya, Japan. The routes proved unpopular, and were therefore dropped during the bankruptcy restructuring. I would say that there is a 0-5% chance that America West ever start flights to the Far East again.

Question One question:

Is the airport of Lake Havasu City having a terminal at all?

On one day last summer we were driving from Las Vegas to Lake Havasu City to visit the London Bridge and there we were also passing the airport, but I didn´t see anything that could have been a terminal!
So where is their Terminal? Has anybody pictures of it?

Thanks for the pic flick70!

I was driving on that boring Highway on the right side of the airport and all I saw was a FedEX Feeder Cessna.

Arrow Building lower right off of apron!

Looks to be angled at 45 degrees off of main apron.
