Default Squak Codes

Can someone explain these to me?

planes are supposed to have a 4096 code Transponder. controllers will assign codes to planes to distinguish different a/c. some common codes:

1200: General aviation
0000: military intercept (dont use!!)
7600: hijack
7700: mayday

Actually, 1200 is the code for VFR flight.

ahh, close enuff! 1200 is the code i use 98% of the time unless RHV tower gets backed up. thanks though, i need to brush up a bit on my GA stuff, as (someday...) id like to get certified.
