I heard a rumour that KLM will be recieving it's first 777 this week. But they would not put it into passenger operation until October. Anybody know anything about that?

The sooner they start to replace the 743's with the 777's the sooner they save on fuel and the extra crew member. I can't wait to see the 777 in KLM colors. Except I would of preferred the livery their doing away with over the new one. Scott

I agree it wouldn't make much sense. They do have to train crews on the type, so they would have to get it early, but it doesn't take 6 months I guess to train experienced crew on a new type. I know it never took my mom 6 months when she was still working at Sabena

Talking about this brings up a good question. Can a pilot learn to fly a new aircraft only on a simulator?
Scott, when an airline gets a new aircraft type for the first time what are the procedures when it comes to training pilots? Scott

I was just talking to a friend of mine who is an Alitalia pilot. He says they send a couple of their most senior pilots for training to Air France 6 months before introducing the 777. And these guys then trained the remaining pilots. I guess that's how it works at most mayor airlines

When CAL got their first 777s in 1998, they sent pilots up to Boeing for training. Once they were certified, they trained other CAL pilots through classwork, simulators, and evenutally short haul domestic operations on the 777s. First delivery was in September, 1998, but it flew domestically for six weeks so pilots could get more cycles and touches on the aircraft before commencing long-haul services.
Sounds like they did a similar program at Alitalia. |
