Aer Lingus is reported to be close to selecting a manufacturer (Feb26, 2003)
Reports indicate that the company is leaning towards replacing its fleet of Airbus A320, A321s, BA146s and Boeing 737s with Boeing 737NGs. Aer Lingus' order could be for 25 to 30 B737s mostly -800s with possibly some -900s. All this still needs to be confirmed. Isn't this interesting ... considering Ryanair has recently been heard discussing taking over AerLingus ... Since it is obvious that Ryanair isn't leaving the 737 ... although it would be one of the first times that an airline has dumped its Boeings for Airbus and then dumped them for more, newer Boeings. any comments? Not possible because we all know European airlines aren't allowed to buy Boeings!!
Seriously, Aer Lingus are such a mess that anything is possible, if Boeing are offering a killer deal to undercut Airbus then they'll go for Boeing. Justin |

Sounds to me like Aer Lingus is bucking the latest trend of airlines going to an all-airbus fleet from an all Boeing fleet and I am glad they are leaning that way. Its really a surprising move after all the financial problems they've had. Though it can be said that Aer Lingus has operated mostly all of the OG-737s in the past so they should be well familiarized with its abilities.
Does anyone remember why Aer Lingus went to Airbus for the 320/1 and 330 in the first place?
