Default Pan Am buffs, I need your help

In the 70's Pan Am named one of their 747s Clipper KISS (as in the rock group KISS). Does anyone know the reg. # for this plane? Been trying to find out for ages now, as I want to build this specific model. The answer eludes me, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Very interesting... unfortunately, it doesn't seem to appear on their aircraft database anywhere...

It is very possible that these Clipper names were simply that -- temporary. And more than likely, put there only for the publicity shots while the aircraft was chartered. There's gotta be some slide photographer or collector out there that might have a slide or photo.

I know this plane was named Clipper KISS as there is a picture of the top front of this plane in the book KISSTORY. I will try to scan it over the weekend, and post it here.

I have also written the Pan Am heritage society, but I have not received a reply from them yet.

Might not the picture have been "faked" by air-brushing the name "KISS" over the plane's real name, just for public relations or just to be cute? It has been done before!

Default THE PICTURE

I am atteching the picture of this plane, or how the picture appears in the book KISSTORY. To me it does not look like the picture has been airbrushed as a publisity stunt, but who knows. You make the decision, I think it is real.

I do not know the reg # or what version of the 747 it is. The picture appears on page 230 in KISSTORY. In the book it only shows the top front of the aircraft (like the picture I enclosed). I think the band chartered the plane in the 70's sometime while they toured. It would be a nice costum model don't you think?

Simple enough... just start acetone stripping the Clipper names off a bunch of PA "Juan Trippe" models...

That was my though exactly (not likely to happen) unless it is a 747SP, then you just have to strip off the 'Mayflower' name. And of course the reg # must be changed too, but that is not a major operation either...

... Seems like I keep buying the stuff in larger and larger sizes (and with my appearance that makes the clerks quite suspicious... )
