Sad day for plane spotters at Maho beach in St. Maarten! Replaced by an A330 . I've always wanted to visit this beach to experience the Queen of the Skies a few feet above my head. Sadly, that's not going to happen anymore. Kudos to all the DAC members that were able to witness in person the KLM B744 land at this beach.

One of the world’s coolest, and scariest, airport landings is ending as Dutch carrier KLM will no longer be flying the four-engined Boeing 747 to St Maarten airport starting October 30.

The flight will be operated by an Airbus 330 instead. This video shows the second-to-last landing of the flight and October 28 is the last day a KLM 747 will make its dramatic landing near the beach.

Wow, end of an era, and sad I never got to witness is in person either...like Kai Tak, some of the best aviation photos ever have been taken here.
Maybe Air France can make a 'special' A380 flight??!! Do Corsair not operate their 747s here?

Yep, same here as well with missing out on Kai Tak!

That would be quite a sight to see the superwhale landing in St. Maarten. It's pretty quiet so you wouldn't get the same audio experience like the B744. I think Corsair no longer operates flights to St. Maarten.

Why they don't replace another route with the A330 and let a boeing 747 fly there, all the people want to see that beautiful large airplane fly above them

Very true on the aural experience, but can you imagine, the sight of the giant Airbus 10ft above the water! A contender for 'most viewed photo' on A.net for sure, knock the current AF 747 off its perch! We can dream...

Was for sure one of the coolest experiences of my life to stand under that 744 as it was landing. Sad that we won't be able to experience it anymore.

I really, really, hate you! That's cool you were able to check that off your aviation bucket list!

I've been able to stand under the EK A380 landing at YYZ; which is OK, but not the same as the B744 at Maho Beach.
