anybody that takes a SUPPORT animal on a plane or anywhere else in public is a total f***ing idiot...stay home if your that f***ed up.....

Note: Not the blind or handicapped who legitimately need a service dog.....

Aviation Daily notes that the laws aren’t in sync on the issue – The Americans with Disabilities Act recognizes “service animals” like dogs trained to assist with the blind, but not “emotional support animals (ESAs).” The Air Carrier Access Act, however, does recognize ESAs and thus requires airlines to accommodate them, unless they are creepy things like snakes, rodents and spiders.
Check out United’s rules here, which distinguish between “service” and “support” animals. Service animals are allowed with few questions. However, “support” animals require a form/note from a doctor attesting to the patient’s need to travel with the animal."

I don't understand why United does not follow the Air Carrier Act.
Or do United rules prevail ?
If the ESA is not dangerous, or annoying for the other pax , and included in the weight allowance, where's the point of banning them ?

Then you are a firm believer in that you should be ENTITLED....

If you are a law abiding citizen who follows the rules, pays taxes, stays out of trouble, then your out of luck...

There are various kinds of emotional support animals. Even your friendly turkey, pictured above at the window, would qualify with a doctor's letter.

But service 'animals' are a little different. For starters, the correct term is 'Service Dogs' because only dogs are recognized by ADA and the Air Carriers Act in the United States. Laws in other countries vary.

You need to be a little careful though. An animal may be a Service Dog without any visual indications of imparement in the owner. There may be no indications of need in the case of dog who is trained as a Diabetic Service Dog (a dog who is trained senses unsafe sugar conditions in diabetics) and performs warning behaviors when the owner can't or hasn't tested. PSDs (psyiactric Service Dogs) fall into the same not obvious category. Their primary function is to recognize stress in their owners and perform mitigating behaviors (pressure relief therapy, interruption behaviors), often in lieu of medication. PSDs must present a special challenge for the airlines. ADA says they are allowed, but when is someone too stressed or anxious to fly? ADA says it doesn't matter. They are listed as a recognized type of Service Dog.

The good news is that the trend is towards training smaller sized service dogs.

When my daughter was much younger, she was wrongly diagnosed as having Aspergers, we were told that a "service" animal would be great for her.

What we did was take her out of that school and send her to another one that was able to accommodate her and then we were told that the other school/psychologist were just crazy.

Anyways, we did end up getting a dog, but he was just a pet.

The sad reality of this is that it seems if you have a stress problem or similar, then some feel that they can get away with hell.

The people who really need these animals are the ones losing out.
