Exclamation SPOTTIN' from your armchair...

I was playing around with the Globe Explorer website today (hey, slow day off and the Chicklets got in a nice long nap this afternoon) checking out all their overhead satellite and aerial imagery- I've found these sort of online satellite imagery websites handy in looking at the layout of unfamiliar airports and nearby landmarks in my flying lessons. At any rate, the resolution on some of these pics is good enough that you can make out your own house, but better yet you can make out airframe types and liveries!

If you can look past the watermarks, there's some pretty neat images to be found.

This picture is of the western end of the International Terminal at Chicago O'Hare. You can make out an Iberia A340, a KLM 747-300, a bmi British Midland A330 (note the red painted tailplanes), and a United 777.

This is the South Satellite at Seattle-Tacoma International. You can make out several Northwest jets- a 747 (looks like a 200?), two DC-10s, and a 757.

This is Terminal A at Dallas-Fort Worth where the international flights that aren't Delta or American arrive. You can make out a British Airways 777 and a Lufthansa A340. The A340 interestingly looks like it's wearing Star Alliance livery. Any guesses on the BA tail? Hard to say, but I'll go for maybe Golden Khokaloma?

Now here's a neat shot. This is New York La Guardia and you can make out a Delta 767-400 as well as some Delta MD-80s and a Northwest DC-9. That's got to be a tight squeeze to get a 767-400 into LGA!

Here's the 747 prototype, Jumbo One, sitting on the ramp at Boeing Field. Last summer when visiting the area, you could drive on the ramp on the right side of this pic right up to Jumbo One which was behind a chain-link fence.

Now some of the images don't have the best image quality and are best seen from the next level up from the closest view which is blurry. This shot is of the terminal at Burbank and you can clealy make out a Southwest 737 (probably a -300) and another 737 next to it that I'm going to guess is Alaska. Also notice the proximity of Runway 26 to the terminal- under normal FAA regs, this is a no-no, but Burbank has a waiver from the FAA from the rules dictating separation of the runway from the terminal/ramp.

Thumbs up F*ckin' A, Bubba!

Thanks for the heads-up on that site - hardcopy print prices are reasonable as well.

You and the Chicklets have a merry Xmas and a happy New Year... off to -- Vegas, baby! Christmas morning. Might try and see the ADI works while I'm over there.

Here's a shot of General Mitchell Field in Milwaukee. Couple interesting things in this shot- some Midwest Express DC-9s and an MD-80 in the middle concourse. There's a Northwest 727 down in the lower left. Sharp eyed folks will also notice the Skyway (Midwest Express' regional partner) 328JET approaching the terminal near some of Skyway's Beech 1900Ds.
