According today Chattanooga Times business section stated that Delta is going to ground all 15 MD-11 by next summer.
Clip, or anyone inside Delta, please find this out. Also where route will enjoy the more of MD-11 routes as time goes by? ATL-MCO? I would like to grab a last ride of MD-11 at affordable fare for that I avoid int'l routes fares. Depending on where route the final MD-11 revenue would be I might as well want to ride on it if it is MCO-ATL. Also get a chance to experience the farewell MD-11 party like they did with L-1011 for that I didnt attend. Thanks

My DL friends in MCO tell me the MD-11s will start being grounded in Jan 2003, and will be replaced slowly by 767s on domestic runs, and by 777s on international flights. Delta Express is also repainting some of their 737s in mainline Delta colors which Delta will use on 757 routes. Ironically the displaced 757s will be operated by Delta Express mostly on the southeast/northeast flights.

Depressing to think that the end of the trijet era is upon us... I personally find all the newer airframes aesthetically boring (though efficient), bland and lacking of any real strong character... almost cookie-cut in assorted sizes. Ah, the L1011, 727, DC-10, MD-11...the prominate, distinctive and proud look of that menacing #2 engine and tail taxing high above the tarmac traffic... My favorite airframe of all was the Lockheed L1011, the classiest jetliner to ever grace the skies... dearly missed.
