I just received an e-mail from the Southwest Rapid Rewards program informing me that the plastic boarding passes are being phased out this summer. Passengers will now get a paper boarding pass from either the skycap, ticket counter, or gate. There will be no assigned seats, but the pass will assign you the letter A, B, or C based on when you checked in.
This will be one less line to stand in! I hated that extra line!! This is really good news! Here is link for more info. http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/abp.html

Now I wonder how long before the plastic card sets begin showing up on eBay. A few weeks ago, the WN Station Manager at OKC said they were instructed not to order any replacement sets of plastic cards unless absolutely needed, and to keep close track of the ones they are using. I guess WN didn't want them going out the back door.

They also began letting people check in for their flight 90 minutes before departure, instead of 60 minutes like it has been.
A woman from Southwest explained all of this to us on our flight a few days ago, and if I heard her correctly, there will also be a kiosk in the terminal that you can check in at instead of having to go to the gate. Rick |
