Question US Airways, how mush longer do they have?

Do you think they will fall?

It certainly looks like they will.

Will the Govt. step in?

Should they?

I think that the Gvmnt SHOULD step in. We have already lost TWA to American so if US stops flying that would be a real disaster.

I think the government has too much to lose by not helping US out. Think of the staff redundancies, loss of revenue at Airports around the nation.

Naaah, I see them going for the forseeable future anyway!

GOOD LUCK US AIRWAYS

well i dunno if the US govt should save them or not, but one airline down means others get a boost in business... so may be it's not bad afterall? dunno

Default US Airways

People, you have to remember there are a few of us US Airways employees active in this forum. So yes, Gasbaggin it would be that bad!!!!
I flew to Philly yesterday to pick up the rest of the stuff I need to go back to work in June after a 6 month volentary leave of absence.
I talked to many of my co-workers, other flight attendants, pilots, agents, supervisors, etc.
They all seemed very positive about working with the company to prevent Chapter 11 in regards to labor concessions. This actually was somewhat of a boost for me. I went through the Chapter 11 at TWA their first time around and it wasn't a pleasant expierence. The mood yesterday was much more positive than what I anticipated. This may or may not be a indicator of things to come, but it certainly helps morale

Hanging in there

Good to hear you're starting work again Bill. We've talked about this topic quite a bit in the 1:1 section of the forum, so you know my position on this topic. If Siegel and labor can reach a financially responsible arrangement and get their costs under control, there is no reason why US couldn't continue to operate. Lower costs and additional RJs will improve their position on the East Coast tremendously. Plus, lower wages at US could help out other carriers (most notably UA) reign in their costs and pave the way to recovery. The item that I find most intriguing about the US plan is that Siegel is promising management pay cuts too. The union leaders will have no reason to balk if this turns out to be true.

I think US Airways will prevail, from what I've been reading the personel have a lot of heart and unlike the big "me first" union mentalities of some other major carriers, US Airways employees seem to want to make it work.
Losing an airline is a horrible experience, I feel for our friends at US and wish them the best of luck for the future.
See Bill, no dig.

Thanks Ozz!

Also thanks for the kind words in regards to US Airways. You are correct we do have alot of heart within the company.

The one thing that has impressed me since becoming a US Airways employee 10 years ago is the diversity among the employees. We still have plenty of people around from the Alleghany, Mohawk, Lake Central, Empire, PSA and of course Piedmont days. These people have all survived mergers, near mergers and most anything that an employee in this industry can confront.

Another positive thing about our work force is the amount of
retreads we have. US Airways was great about hiring those of us who came from other airlines. I have many friends and co-workers who were formally Ozark also along with TWA, Presidental, Eastern, New York Air, PeoplExpress, etc. Many of these people lost their jobs with their original airline and know what it's like to lose their income. their security etc. These people are survivors!!!!

If anthing helps our airline to rebound and survive it will be the work force we have now who have pride in our company and will do what it takes to make US Airways a viable company again.

For those of you who fly us, let me tell you, I certainly appreciate your business.

Thanks
Bill G

I have never flown on USAirways....they only operate an express flight into Omaha, and usually do not go to where I am trying to get to easily (possibly one of their problems?). However, I would love to take a ride on them if the opportunity presents itself.

As far as will they survive? Probably. They will get a handout from the gov't or something. That or they will be absorbed by another majo but run independantly. Neither of these are meant to be negative...if the gov't was there for Braniff years ago....I would not be b*tching about it.

As far as good employees....while I do not doubt they are team players and offer what they feel is top-notch service....all airlines are starting to get into that boat. America West is a leader in many catagories now....who would have EVER expected that?

I guess what happened BEFORE Sept. 11 is the qualifying argument.

Best of luck US Airways!

I went to a USAirways employee meeting with Siegel today in CLT. I was pretty impressed with him. He is the first CEO we have had since Piedmont that I didn't feel like was feeding us B.S. Things are pretty bad, but he makes a good case to do what ever it takes to avoid Chpt 11. We will see.

Tony

p.s. Phil-Do you have any dealings with C.D. McLean(sp?)? He hired me at Piedmont. Dave said today that he enjoyed his time at CO with the PI mafia!

Bill G. and Other USAirways Employees,

I'm not only hoping and rooting for your airline, I'm praying for it! I fly on USAirways and USAirways Express tomorrow from Baltimore to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I'm sure I'll have enjoyable, comfortable, and safe flights.

Speaking of enjoyable, comfortable, and safe, I pray everyone has an enjoyable, comfortable, and safe holiday weekend!

Best Regards,
