By my count, AC now has itself, Tango, Jazz and Zip. What an amazing business strategy, perhaps they'll eventually put it under a holding company and call it "Flop"...

The folks at West Jet must be having a good laugh right now at this situation, they at least have a solid business strategy, that isn't fragmenting into 5 - 7 different dumb pieces. You'd think, after Metro Jet and Cattle Car by United, that AC would learn a thing or two. Oh well, we'll just have to sit back and watch.

At least it honors the old BN color schemes.

Well look at KLM, BMI British Midland, QANTAS and even heard British Airways may start another LO-CO, all these arlines are starting or expanding their low-cost airlines. So what is so differnet if Air Canada does it? Because they're not from europe it won't work?

It has nothing to do with Europe, experience to date with these low cost spinoffs is that the parent ultimately sells them off or shuts them down, because they end up competing with the full service line (whether it's in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, etc.). I'm skeptical of BMI and Qantas' efforts in the long run, BA should be fixing it's core operation before it is goes off creating another Go. Ultimately, and airline should decide what it's market is, and focus on that, rather than try to be all things (example Continental).

In AC's case, why not use the Tango product in Western Canada, or just pull out the first class seats on mainline craft, and offer lower fares on the regular AC product, versus going to the time and expense of setting up a separate company, painting planes, separation of labor issues, etc. I'd be willing to bet a few dollars (US or Canadian....) that Zip and Tango end up dancing right back to AC at some point in the next two years.

In the end, what's happening is a fundamental change in the air travel market, i.e. there is less demand for a full service carrier, and more demand for Southwest/West Jet type services. Full service carriers are going to have to evolve or eventually go the way of other big names.

Craig,

the name "Zip" shall remind you that you´ll be cramped in their planes the same way data files get cramped when they are put into a zip-file!

It's a jelly bean wanna be! I must admit thought that not having come from the orginal jelly bean era (aka Branniff), it's kind of nice to see.

Arrow Zip doesn't work with Tango and Jazz! Maybe colors maybe not.

Pink looks like magenta!
So Air Canada's business is buy your competitors and start new Airline niches!
Looks neat but watch them go eurowhite! That is alot of colors now a days.
It is cool looking but how long will it last.
