From our local ABC news station in Sacramento:
Bucking a national trend, air travel out of Sacramento International Airport has rebounded to pre-September 11th numbers. Approximately 679,000 passengers flew in or out of Sacramento International in March, closing paralleling the number of travelers who used the airport in March 2001. Last month was the first time since the September 11th that monthly totals rose to 2001 levels. On average, airports nationwide have seen total passengers decrease by eight to ten percent during the past six months. Contrary to this trend, use of Sacramento International has actually been growing in recent months. There are currently 150 daily departures at the airport, compared to 138 in April 2001. A number of newly initiated routes helped boost Sacramento's numbers. Horizon Air and Southwest Airlines have inaugurated service to three new destinations, Palm Springs, Boise and Orange County. In addition, Frontier Airlines began operating at the airport with service to Denver. They forgot to mention HA adding SMF-HNL and Mexicana's soon to be added service to Mexico City.
