Security breach shuts down Cincinnati terminal
Carry-on appeared to contain a knife April 8, 2002 Posted: 12:30 PM EDT (1630 GMT) HEBRON, Kentucky (AP) -- A Delta Air Lines terminal was shut down for part of Monday morning at Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport because a carry-on bag that appeared to contain a knife may have gotten past security. A security employee saw a knife on the screen when a passenger's carry-on bag went through an X-ray machine, said airport spokesman Ted Bushelman. But another security employee stopped the wrong bag and apparently let the bag containing the knife go through, he said. Passengers were required to go back through the security check, Bushelman said. The terminal reopened late Monday morning and flights were about two hours behind schedule, said Delta spokeswoman Kristi Tucker. She did not have any details about the shutdown. Bushelman wasn't immediately available for more comment, said a secretary who wouldn't give her name. She wouldn't say if a knife was found. The airport's other two terminals remained open.
