Post Aloha Flying to Burbank, Vancouver

Aloha Airlines announced Thursday plans to extend its service by offering routes to Burbank, Calif. and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Service to Burbank, a suburb of Los Angeles, is scheduled to start June 1, Aloha President Glenn Zander said. Service to Vancouver will begin June 15. Special introductory fares will be offered. Aloha said it will use its two newest Boeing 737 aircraft for the route

The routes are compatible with Aloha's strategy to fly into secondary airports near major cities. The moves follow announcements by Hawaiian Airlines that it is extending its service to the California cities of Sacramento and Ontario.

The moves come after Hawaiian pulled out of a plan to merge the two carriers.

This is great news for me, with C3 gone there's not much choice when going to HNL anymore.
I will have to give them a try, but six hours on a 73, yikes!

Alright, with all this expansion between Hawaiian and Aloha, something's got to give eventually. It seems practically every airport on the west coast that serves jets is getting non-stop service to Hawaii. Are there any other airports in california with major jet service (i.e. non-RJ's) that don't have service to Hawaii?? (LAX, SFO, San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, San Diego, John Wayne, Burbank)...any others? I'm sure the residents of Death Valley would certainly enjoy a weekend in the tropics

Good point, TL925. The only California airports without service to Hawai'i that I can think of are FAT and LGB. Shoot, the way Aroha and Hawaiian are going maybe they'll commence service to Bakersfield, Monterey, Redding, King City, Blythe, and Santa Maria. Good call on the Death Valley service.

News Flash: Aloha and Hawaiian compete to win a contract to fly into Mammoth Lakes, California. Both airlines seek service into the bustling city in the mountains. Though extensive work needs to be done to the airport, including lengthening and widening the runway, a terminal, and stronger ramps, both airlines are optimistic.

By the way, just kidding.

As of right now, ONT does not have direct service to Honolulu.

Cool

As crazy as it sounds, but I remember reading about a mountain in Hawaii high enough that people ski there. It's not a resort or anything, but I guess hike up to where the snow is to get in a few runs. You learn something new every day.

You could sell tickets to watch a 737 NG attempt a takeoff at KBUR with fuel on board to reach Hawaii. It's got short runways with significant terrain and slope - hence restricted "performance" in the sense of single-engine climb with failure on the runway past the point of an abort.
