Delta jet diverted to Newfoundland
April 3, 2002 Posted: 9:20 AM EST (1420 GMT) ST. JOHN'S, Canada (CNN) -- A Delta Air Lines flight en route from Atlanta to Madrid was diverted to an airport in the Canadian province of Newfoundland on Tuesday night, when an unruly passenger got into an altercation with the flight crew, the airline and local police said. The passenger had to be restrained, a Delta spokeswoman said. But the incident was thought to be medically or drug-related, and the flight was never in danger, she said. Flight 108, a Boeing 767, left Atlanta at 5:45 p.m. EST. It landed in St. John's so the passenger could be removed. The flight was expected to depart from St. John's at 11 p.m. EST to continue on to Madrid, according to the Delta spokeswoman. Officers from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary met the jetliner on landing, a dispatcher for the agency said. There were no injuries reported
