Default Allegis and Avolar

What stellar Airline brought you these two lame companies? Perhaps they should try naming any future bentures with a different letter.

Allegis was the parent company of United Airlines, a few hotel chains and a rental car company. Then they dumped the name, sold all assets (except the Airline) and renamed themselves UAL. I don't remember the brainchild behind the company, but I know they spent a lot of $$$ on making up the name.

Default His name was.....

His name was Richard Ferris. He came up with a stupid name and a bad plan when it came to the airline itself.

As UAL bought Hertz, Westin and Hilton International the airline stagnated while other airlines grew. United spent money on Ferris' grand plan while other airlines ordered new planes and the airline industry as a whole became smaller as weaker airlines fell to the stronger airlines.

After Ferris left with his golden parachute the three companies were sold the name put back, United started to catch up with the other airlines.

Kind of makes you wonder how UAL has survived this long? I am glad they did, but they have had some weak management teams in the past.

Unfortunately UAL seems to subsist on the 5 or 6 year plan; management teams change roughly twice a decade. The result is a continuously degrading financial balance sheet and slow loss of market share. We must turn this gradual slide around or else fade into the oblivion of PA, EA, etc. There is more potential strength at UA than doom; enlightened management AND labor can capture the spirit long dormant at this great airline. The time is now, the window of opportunity is small.
