Well since i felt i should just put this out for the heck of it since i noticed a little hatred against the airbus in the sky...
Just curious what everyone else thinks about the 2 rivals. For me i would rather fly the a320 any day compared to the cramped 737 I have been on 737s on united, alaska, Airtran(although thats kinda unfair since that 737-200 crammed ya in like sardines), plus delta.... Being that i live in a NW hub (detroit), i get to fly the a320 all the time, and even thou finding the row numbers is hard to see sometimes, i think the a320 has the best head room and feels wider than the old design of the 737... now on the model being produced, i still have to go with my a320... ![]() |

Sorry pal, I know you're new, but wouldn't this thread be more appropriate in the 1:1 section?
Oh forget it, there's one Airbus vs Boeing thingy going on there already. |

It is funny that I voted for the A320. I have never flown on one yet I can relate to the cramped quarters of the 737s. The cabin of the A320 family couldn't be worse and everything I have ever read about the A320 leads me to believe that passenger wise, it ismore passenger friendly. I believe that I have heard that pilots prefer 737 and the technology is better but I'm not sure. All I do know is if I started an airline I would go with the A320 line.

The A320 (and all post-A300 Airbuses ) scare me, technology-wise. There are SO many "was that supposed to do that?" incidents to read about....
But I still prefer them over 737's, simply because 737's are fugly. ![]() |

Having never flow on a A320 I've voted for the 737NG

737NG here. I like to have control cable secondary controls when the flight computer sh*ts the bed.

I have flown the 737-300/500 for the past 11 years, and sat in the A-320 jumpseat once. Don't know much about the NG series, but presume it to be a vastly improved "classic". Boeing's guppy is a superbly engineered and nearly invinceably reliable gem to fly. The A-320 appeared reasonably user-friendly to a casual observer. When the ***** hits the fan and systems fail or pilots encounter difficulty interfacing with technology, the Boeing seems easier to manage. I believe they are built to more rugged standards and look forward to comparing a 25 year old A-320 airframe to the venerable 737 of similar vintage.

I prefer an airliner where the crew are not just systems managers and are just along for the ride.
The 320 is a cool looking airplane but I prefer the old steam gauge technology and the 73ng comes a lot closer IMO. So when the islamic terrorists figure out how to deliver a EMP warhead to the US, at least the guppies will be able to glide to safety.

A320... B737... it's all the same! Well, the B737 is more of a good old jetliner but...

Having been an all the 737's and both the A320-100/200 I prefer the later simply cause of its design and style. From and engineering point of view once again the Airbus beats the pants off the 737, hands down.

It really is amazing how little people know about fly-by-wire and the Airbus design philosophy, despite being "knowledgeable" about aviation. Hate what you don't know, I suppose.
For all the "was that supposed to do that" stories there are an equal number of "hey, the rudder just moved by itself" events. Westjetter, I think in your case I would have been more fearful of a crew that not only sounds clueless about the operation of the aircraft, but that is stupid enough to let someone touch anything in the cockpit during flight (or on the ground). The throttles on the A320 do not operate as the captain supposedly described, by the way. The throttles do not move when the aircraft is on autopilot, but they most certainly are operational at all times. This is a difference in design philosophy. Some pilots prefer to see the throttles moving, as does happen in Boeing aircraft. Emergency throttle? I don't think so. You either misunderstood, or that crew needs to return to flight school. As for redundancy, the A320 has SEVEN flight control computers that are completely isolated from one another. And that's just flight control. Also, there IS a redundant mechanical linkage to the trimmable horizontal stabilizer and rudder. Both the A320 and 737 are good aircraft. I just wish people would get their facts straight before slamming something. Scott's insights as a 737 pilot are extremely valuable, as always, by the way.

Tony,
It is a constant struggle to remain smarter than my big bro, but well worth the effort. The Captain is now driving the 'bus out of Washington, by the way. He stays at my place a couple times a month. He's got those Shuttle routes down so well that next time he's gonna fly a leg blindfolded. Gabby

Gabby, you are once again the DAC voice of reason.
I stand better informed and corrected, thanks. I still like the guppy best though, it's a Pacific Northwest thing.
