This is the first time a B747 was disassembled for transport. Lufthansa had grounded the D-ABYM "Schleswig-Holstein" since Oct 2001 and now donated it to the technics museum in Speyer (some 50 km southwest of Frankfurt).
After the dismantling it was loadad on a ponton boat and shipped to Speyer. In Summer you will be able to visit the aircraft from inside. The technics museum has also a Antonov AN22 and other planes. It´s sister museum in Sinsheim features a TU144, a TU134, lots of Ferraris, Porsches, steam locomotives and ... If you ever visit central Germany you´ve got to go there! Here´s another picture showing the fuselage on the ponton boat. It´s scanned from a newspaper.
