A-330-200 competes against the 767-300ER not the 767-200/200ER

Both United and American had the 767-200's before they went to the 767-300's. My guess is that other airlines will just replace their -200's with the -300's.

Lightbulb The 762 will be replaced by the new 762.

Both UAL and AA had the -200 first because Boeing offered the -200 first, both airlines continue to operate the -200's on thier less dense trunk routes.
If you would like a new -200 Boeing would be happy to make a fresh copy for you, they delivered a new 767-200(ER) to Kazakhstan Airlines just 2 weeks ago.

You will see Boeing update this airframe along with the powerplants, avionics and interiors and continue to offer it for years to come, I expect the new (short) version to be named 767-600 or something along this line.

While orders have been slim for the -200 for the last few years you need to realize that; some airlines are now operating high-time 767-200's that they will be looking to replace shortly.

Question

Wasn't the -200 line closed down for awhile until Continental came along and placed an order large enough to make it profitable to do so?

A330s often directly compete with B767s.

I would have to say that I like the 200 over the 300.

It gives it a short stubby look and makes the plane look cool!

Keep the 200's coming!

That's correct. It's wasn't 'officially' closed, but the -300 had been by far the more popular aircraft order-wise. Continental restarted it with the first commercial order in quite some time (there were some military model -200's that had been produced, though -- the Japanese air force AWACS).
