Default Denver airport concourse evacuated

Denver airport concourse evacuated
At least 1,000 people are moved out of the concourse
March 15, 2002 Posted: 4:21 PM EST (2121 GMT)

DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- Officials evacuated one of three concourses at Denver International Airport after as many as 10 people walked through a metal detector that had lost power Friday morning.

Flights out of Concourse A were halted after the security breach at 10:30 a.m. MST (12:30 p.m EST), said an airport spokesman. Concourses B and C were continuing operations as normal.

"We don't know what caused the power outage," said Elise Eberwein, a spokeswoman for Frontier Airlines, which had 11 planes at gates, fully loaded, waiting to take off.

"We were probably most impacted," she said, noting that all the flights were delayed.

At least 1,000 people were evacuated, and officials were trying to determine which flights should be rescreened first. Eberwein estimated operations at the concourse would not return to normal for "a couple of hours."

Trains were bypassing Concourse A, going instead directly to the other concourses. Concourse A is used for international flights and Frontier Airlines gates.

those detectors are losing power probably because since 9/11 the bag screeners have been working those machines extremely hard causing them to break.

Well, they didn't say how it "lost power". I had heard earlier today that it was unplugged, although it wasn't directly from a news source so who knows.

Boy, I'm sure glad that the government has taken over security screening. It's so much better this way, isn't it? *sigh*

That's why we need to have more dogs at the airport. German Shepards would do the trick. Although they can't search a bag, but they can be trained to sniff for explosives. They don't run out of power and their success rate is higher then any machine. Plus they look real cool.

I used to work on concourse A under gate 33 (across from Quizno's), i bet my people had a hard time getting in or out.

The solution to these problems is simple.

Hire people who have somewhat ofa clue.

Default Airport evacuations

Before I took a six month leave of absence in December, I went through three of these in a month.

1. Philadelphia- Where one of our pilots made a remark going through security then they couldn't find him.
2. Seattle-This one was a real pain. We had left the gate and taxied out and had to return to the gate and have everyone deplane and evacuate the concourse. Though the bomb sniffing dogs were kind of cool to watch. Never did hear the exact reason on this one.
3. Boston-Discovered a screener asleep at his machine. Need I say more?

Back to work in June. I have to admit, I miss the insanity. Though, that'll probably change again after my first trip.
