Is Swiss going to upgrade Swissair's fleet with the A340-600 and retire all the old MD-11s? May I also know what is Edelweiss Air's code(eg. SR=Swissair, AA=American Airlines,TG=THAI Airways)

No, Swiss stated last month that they cancelled Swissair's order for the A340-600 citing that the plane is too big for their needs. They are currently looking at selecting the A340-300 or 777-200.

I can picture SR livery on A340-300s, but B777s?
Wow... I would like to see that.

Thanks!

Default AirlinerWorld

In the February issue of AirlinerWorld is says that

"Iberia is understood to be considering an offer from Airbus Industrie to take two A340-600's. The opportunity arose following the cancellation of Swissair's order of nine A340-600's with leasing associate Flightlease.
The aircraft could be taken instead of the two A340-300's that were due for delivery this year. The aircraft had earlier been offered to Lufthansa but it declined them as they would not be in its configuration.
Other possible takers are South African Airways and Thai Airways. as the latter has stated its wish to dispose of its three MD-11's"

A Swiss 777-200 would rock.

I totally agree that a 777 would really look great in the Swiss livery, but I would think they will stay with Airbus.

There is a possibility then that SAA could start operating the A340-600 soon! As for Swiss, I agree with UALsprtofSEA2 that they will stick with Airbus. It would be very cool to see a Swiss 777, perhaps the chickenworks could come up with something
