Cockpit fire forces emergency landing
No injuries; plane lands safely March 5, 2002 Posted: 11:45 AM EST (1645 GMT) TEXARKANA, Arkansas (AP) -- A cockpit fire forced a United Airlines 757 to make an emergency landing at Texarkana Regional Airport on Tuesday. None of the 106 people on board was injured. "There was no type of commotion, the passengers are just calm," said Carri Jones, the airport's finance administrator. "The landing went very smoothly." She said she had no information about how the fire started, but said it had ben contained. United Airlines did not immediately return a call Tuesday seeking comment. The plane was traveling from Orlando, Florida, to San Francisco, California. Airline officials said another plane would be brought in from Denver to transport the passengers on the remainder of their trip. The airport is on the Arkansas-Texas line southwest of Little Rock.
