Default Dallas to Alaska-Pics

Here are some photos from a recent day trip I took to Anchorage all taken with an iPhone.

AA MD-80 Dallas-Tucson

Average meal service in first. Quite impressed though for this short flight. Thankfully, they put the animal carcass on the side for those of us who don't eat meat:

5

Hanging out a bit in Tucson before the next flight.
7

First onboard the Skywest CRJ-700 flight from Tucson to Phoenix was empty so they let me sit anywhere, lol.
8

Hanging out in PHX a bit waiting for USAir flight to Anchorage:
10

Was excited to see this bird sitting at the gate to take us to ANC. Very boring 5 and a half hour flight to ANC in darkness. Sat in seat 1B which turned out to be very convenient since the lavatory was so close and the meal service made me vomit near the end of the flight. I know, too much information.

I went to Elmendorf for the day to attend an air national guard interview. I found out a few days later I was selected by their unit for a pilot officer position on KC-135's in Fairbanks.

Nice pics, Billy! Do you have bennies on AA/US? My g/f and I non-revved up to ANC this past October. Interesting city. Reminded me A LOT of Billings, MT. I hated Billings.

Thanks dude. I have AA miles that I used for these flights. I Can non-rev for free, but the seats suck and usually nothing is available when I need it.
Funny that ANC is like Billings. Never been, but I was pleasantly surprised by ANC. I thought it would be like a few buildings and a ship port and thats it. Lots of big city creature comforts.

Like the salad, beautiful terrain and sunny US Airways pic! I was stationed at Eielson in '80/'81. Can't say enough about the virgin beauty of Alaska. It's almost otherworldly!

I totally agree. It was nothing like I was expecting Alaska to be. Really glad to be moving there.

How was Fairbanks overall? I'm sure now its a tad bit bigger, but did you guys find stuff to do on your time off besides on base?

A guy is at a restaurant chowing down on a delicious, juicy steak, quite obviously enjoying himself. There's a woman at the table across from him eating a big ole' pile of greens. She's looking at him, he's looking at her. She's giving him the evil eye, puts down her cutlery, and says, sobbing, "You... you killed that cow!" Guy says, "No I didn't, lady. That cow died because YOU ate all its food."

Never flew anything but Econ on Amercian, all I remember was it was a 3 and a half hour flight on the way to MIA and an additional 2 and a half to Belize and didn't even receive a pack of peanuts or a cup of water.

But hey, it was cheap as all get out, so I can't really complain.

No, not at all! It was the best I could get with airline miles. Sounds like you and Mike will eat any "meat" that comes your guys' way.

Calling me a "carcass eater" (as if it was some sort of insult) seems borderline "holier than thou" to me.

Srs though, what are your reasons for being vegan/vegetarian?

I am so sorry for hurting your sensitive feelings

Nah dude, I do the vegan thing for a health benefit. I've never been healthier and my blood pressure never lower. I feel great too.

"I found out a few days later I was selected by their unit for a pilot officer position on KC-135's in Fairbanks." Way to go - congrats. We have KC-135Rs at MacDill, and they looked great a month ago when I was there chasing a new ID card for my wife - took two days - we were there when the computers went down, so we overnighted. Will miss the 135s when the KC-46s come on line. Keep 'em flying, Doug

Thanks! The -135R's are really beautiful aircraft. Are you in the AF at MacD? I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point.

I was told that my squadron will be getting the KC-46's in the not so distant future. If that means 3 years or 10 years, I have no clue, but I am in no rush to see that change happen. Flying a 57 year old jet has a much cooler "feel" to it

I'm a dog-eared retired army reservist. Finished up in the 11th Special Forces Group which was deactivated in '95. I was a static line jumpmaster, and the C-130 really got my juices going. I think that airplane will one day surpass the C-47 as the greatest military transport ever. For me the C-130 is the standard airborne platform. Keep yer powder dry, SFC Doug Seeley (ret.)
