Thumbs up Alaska, Horizon announce new service to Denver

SEATTLE — Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air today announced that they'll begin service to Denver in April as part of a series of schedule changes geared to more effectively deploy the carriers' fleets. Alaska also will initiate service to Boston.

Alaska and Horizon will begin service to Denver on April 28 with six daily nonstop flights—three from Seattle on Alaska, and two from Portland and one from Boise on Horizon. Alaska's new service between Boston and Seattle will begin on April 4 with one daily nonstop flight flown with a 120-seat Boeing 737-700.

Also April 28, Alaska will inaugurate seasonal nonstop service between Vancouver, B.C., and Orange County, Calif.

Gregg Saretsky, Alaska's senior vice president of marketing and planning, said the new routes are part of an effort by both carriers to build on the strength of their hubs in Seattle and Portland and redeploy excess capacity in existing markets where it makes sense.

"This really is a continuation of what we've been doing for years: connecting the dots between our largest markets and the places our customers tell us they want to go," Saretsky said.

Like the service Alaska launched to Washington, D.C. in September, service to Boston is made possible by the long-range capability of the carrier's fleet of Next Generation Boeing 737-700 and –900 aircraft. Those aircraft also have enabled Alaska to initiate service between Anchorage-Chicago and most recently Los Angeles-Cancun.

Denver, on the other hand, makes sense because it's the fourth-largest market for travelers out of Seattle, he said. Alaska will use 138-seat Boeing 737-400s on that route, while Horizon will use its new 70-seat CRJ-700 jets.

Now the T-Man can use his 180,000 Alaska Miles he has been sitting on for 5 years!

Could Alaska and Frontier merge one day? Makes you think

Thumbs up I heard that this morning!

Denver needs more carriers here anyway! I wish Southwest would fly here like they did when Stapleton was open.

Very nice to see Alaska going to DEN. Relive the MarkAir days! Yes Craig, you and I both being Denver fans do miss Stapleton very much. DEN just isn't the same anymore without Frontier, Continental, and United clogging up the ramp at the same time.

Hey T-Man, yeah I saw that. Not bad...but I would rather live away from the city.

You really live in ASE?

Marc -

My wife and I live in Aspen, right in town. No we don't have a mega mansion, but it a nice home with a view of Aspen Mountain Ski Resort. My office is in Denver and I do the Air Wisconsin commuter thing once or twice a week.

I also have a townhome in Denver so depending on the schedule, we can be in Denver or Aspen at any given time.

Right now I am in Denver.

As to Stapleton, I looked at doing some of the new housing development there, but the company that the City sold the land to is so crooked that we decided to focus our efforts elsewhere, mostly Downtown. More interesting is all the redevelopment that has happened down the street at Lowrey AFB. It is amazing how fast that old base has been transformed into the surrounding community.

Arrow I take E-470 home every night to PARKER!

Is your work in one of the high rises?

I am on ground level for a office. And where I live we are out of the smog zone for Denver when that happens. I tend to feel lousy those days.

Everytime I drive E-470 from DIA I have to remind myself that I am in Colorado. It is a kind of "What the Fua? Where am I again? Oh yeah, the Outlands of Denver. What amazes me about E-470 is that all of a sudden you end up right at Park Meadows. I do like the fact that you can drive 70 mph and avoid the I-70 and I-225 traffic.

I guarantee you in 10 years, E-470 will look like I-225.

T-Man,
I love ASE. Very nice town. Haven't been there in a few years, but hope to go back someday. My skiing years ended around 1999. I sure miss those Whiskey and Aspen 146 flights. Always a fun ride. Especially getting diverted to EGE and taking the shuttle bus.

I found a lot of old 110 prints I had of stapleton. Sure are sad to look at.

Craig really is from Limon, he just won't admit it...

I lived in Northglenn for awhile in 2000, had my job with ASIG transferred to DIA. I had to go south I-25 to I-70 east to Pena Blvd to get to work, then i found out that the street i lived off was 104th st and it ran all the way out to Tower Rd. cut 30min off my drive. and now that i'm done with school i'm seriously thinking about moving back out there. any good areas???

Default Apartments are being built everywhere and tons of houses!

Right on Tower Road near DIA housing developments are going in and those people complain about the place that was built first.

No not Limon it is Parker where I live near Elisabeth and Franktown. I like hilly terain becouse of those tornados, weather still gets turbulant in Parker no matter what. I live on the fringe of the Palmer Divide area!

Geez Craig - why not just live out in Kiowa?

David - now is a good time to move back to Denver. Housing prices are falling and if you want to rent, well depending on where you want to livve, you can get some sweet deals.

Strangest named town in Colorado is - Rocky Ford

I met someone from there and I thought it was a car dealership. I didn't know what the F they were talking about.

I think Craig really lives in Castle Pines and doesn't want his fellow DAC members to know that he is rich folk. They always use the I live near Parker cover to try to throw people off.

I enjoy No Name, CO personally.

I puked in the Safeway parking lot in Frisco. That was fun...

Hey T-Man, having fun watching the Ports of Call BAC 1-11 fly into ASE lately? Been coming in quite often. Nothing that Stage 2 departures couldn't cure for the mountain folk.
