Re: Delta 777-300???
Nope. Only aircraft they have on order are 100 737-900's and a few more used MD-90's.
Oh, and of course the 787-8 due in 2020 and the used 717's from Airtran/Southwest

If all goes to plan, we should start seeing a few in 2013.

I'd like to see some 777-300's with Delta, I'd really love to see some 748's in their livery though!

Re: Delta 777-300???
According to the "Airliner World" October 2012 Delta will be receiving their B787-800s in 2020.
It was an order that Northwest previously took and Delta kept it. The B777-300 has not been ordered.
Perhaps they are waiting for the new B777-XXX? The B747s which were going bye bye soon are now being kept longer because of the 2020 B787 deliveries. Almost seven years from now! The A330s acquired from Northwest are their backbone now along with the B767-300ERs.

Re: Delta 777-300???
I doubt you'll see Delta waiting on any future 777 series. They have already repeated time after time that that they are interested in proven aircraft. Finally, the 787 is not a replacement for the 747.

Re: Delta 777-300???
Yeah, I can't say Delta really enjoys their 777's. In fact, I think they like the NW A330's better. They definitely like their 767-300's and 767-400's as they have no plans on getting rid of them. In fact, just like the 747's, they are going in for mods, as are the A330's.

Re: Delta 777-300???
Although I will add that Delta does like their 777LR better than their 777ER. I am still hoping that either Delta or United order the 747-8.

Here is a pic of the delta fleet, I'm not sure how accurate it is as of right now, but I know the 737-900 is not pictured. So I imagine this pic might be somewhat old.

Yeah, that's pretty old. It came out shortly after the NW merger when the livery was still pretty new and shows the 747-200, DC-9-30, and DC-9-40...none of which ever received this livery. The Saab 340 is also on there, which is no longer operated.

Re: Delta 777-300???
I read this information in the October 2012 issue of "Airliner World". The B747-400s are going away when the B787s are introduced, not soon, but around 2020 . They are
retrofitting them to bring them up to current.

Actually, being the person I am, I take my time looking at the site and reading the posts carefully, this topic was discussed back in 2008/09.
While I was at it, I talked with someone via Facebook who's dad works for Delta, and he confirmed this.

Well if his dad confirmed it. Then it must be true. So what does his dad do for Delta? One mans opinion can't reflex the opinion of the whole airline.

Just because someone's dad works for a company does not make them a good resource...let alone the kid of a dad. Like I said, read with skepticism and understand that one employee's opinion does not necessarily make it the view of the company.

Re: Delta 777-300???
Absolutely, he is a pilot, but what I am getting at is Delta is not fond the 777ER, based on my personal opinion and the personal opinions of other Delta pilot's. I also base this off of their fleet. Look at this lowdown:
A330-200/300 - All aircraft to get interior mods (32 aircraft)
747-400- 2 in for mods, Rest are done (16 aircraft)
767-300ER - All aircraft to get winglets and interior mods (60 aircraft, plus 15 regular 767-300's already modded)
767-400ER (21 aircraft)
Let's look at their 777 aircraft:
777-200ER- (8 aircraft)
777-200LR- (10 aircraft)
Granted they are more modern, don't you find it funny Delta has two more 777LR aircraft then ER? The LR simply is more profitable for them.

Re: Delta 777-300???
Well, just because they have added LR's instead of ER's doesn't necessarily mean they are unhappy with the ER's. The LR came out after and Delta's strategy has significantly changed since it purchased it's first 777's. It's not a short term process to replace a fleet and mods will continue to be done. This would also be consistent with their re-branding efforts.
Here's the thing about pilots...most of them like to complain about everything. Whether it's the hotel, the rest area, the food, the schedule, or whatever...generally they are complaining. Don't get me wrong -- they're cool people at the end of the day and they are willing to bend over backwards to help you. Most recently, I got to save some cab fare when I jump seated last month. I was on FedEx and I needed to get to the passenger terminal to get my rental. He offered me a ride which I was grateful for. Like I said, the overwhelming majority of them are extremely cool people but they do complain.

Re: Delta 777-300???
The thing is. I don't think Delta is fond of the Airbus either. They have never put an order themselves. All their busses came from mergers. They are stuck with the mini busses because they have too many of them to get rid of. The big bus is a money maker for them like all the rest. Maintenance wise the airbus is more expensive due to only getting parts from Airbus only. What planes do they have on order? Boeings. What planes are they buying up? Boeing and MD's. My opinion of one Delta employee that means nothing!

Delta has no plans to remove any of the Airbus planes besides the scattered 20+ year A320, they've stated publicly.
All the other baby buses are retro fitted and the A330s are staying for the long run as they are going in for interior mods.
I've heard several Delta employees on A.Net saying that Delta was actually very impressed by the A330 performance. I know it's not at all a resource, but it's all we are given as airlines generally don't talk publicly about their aircraft's disappointments, only things they like about them. Cept' for Al Baker/Qatar Airlines.

Re: Delta 777-300???
Delta really has no market for the 773 while they still have the 744. I agree with the poster that said they are in love with the capability of the LRs. If DL does make another firm 777 order, it will no doubt be more of them since the LR can do the job of the ER, but not vice-versa. I also think t was a smart move by Delta to delay 787 deliveries up to 2020. It will take some time to get the "teething issues" worked out, so it makes sense to let Boeing and the other operators get a handle on it first.

Replace "pilots" with "airline workers" and the statement above is just as accurate!
Now that I think of it, you could probably replace "airline workers" with "the workforce" as well...

Re: Delta 777-300???
I know for a fact that:
1. Delta does not like the 777 ERs.
2. Delta is very impressed with the performance of the A330's, as well as the A320s and A319s it acquired from NWA.
3. Delta plans to keep all Airbus planes in their fleet, with the exception of the old A320s.
Delta, like Continental and American, had an agreement with Boeing. That went out the window with the aquisition of NWA. Don't be surprised if you see Delta ordering Airbuses in the future. We saw that with American as well.

Re: Delta 777-300???
With the demise of Comair and their 50 passenger regional jets, Delta is going to be
again with Boeing when the acquire, or sublease from Southwest, the 80 B717s. At
this point Delta does not have a 350-500 passenger aircraft. Do they need one? There
big push will be in the South America's, like Brazil.

Would be kind impossible to order one considering it does not exist.
A350-800/900/1000 I assume your referring to.
I expect we'll see Delta at least eyeing these birds as they are developed but ultimately not making any decision until Boeing announces their A350 competitor, which may be quite a while given they just announced the 777X project is being put on hold.
US and UA both have A350s on order, I wouldn't be surprised if Delta joined in.

They will need to replace their 747s eventually. Probably in the the next 4 years they'll announce an order for either a 777X or A350 product.

Re: Delta 777-300???
What about a buy back in exchange? B747-400s in exchange for B747-800s?

I don't think we'll see a NA pax customer for the 747-8. They all seem to be moving away from 4 engine aircraft and focus more on frequencies then capacity. You never know though!
