Default Video: C-17 lands at wrong airport

Nice! all over the news here in Orlando...topic on A.net as well military section...3,000 ft runway at a civilian airport by MISTAKE! C-17 can easliy handle it as designed but Im sure the pilots are in for some grief..this small airport has the exact same runway configuration as Mcdill AFB and the runways are exactly aligned together 5 miles apart...

Craziest thing I've ever seen. C-17 lands at wrong airport. Not an airbase. #Tampa #MacDill #Screwedpilots

So where does it say they didn't mean to land there, perhaps as a practice emergency in case they couldn't get in at McDill? All the voice on the video is saying is "Oh my God"? Perhaps the pilot had a different view and it would be good to hear what the pilot said afterwards and if he admitted it was a mistake.

Craziest thing ? This guy has much to see, then.
Here more than once airliners made their approach on Brétigny AB rather than Orly Airport : same runways configuration and orientation, only some kilometers appart. Landing even happened, like in 1990 with an Egyptair 747 !

Yes there is video of it leaving that night using about half the 3,000 ft runway!

If you look at both runways on a map, you can see how a mistake could be made by a pilot unfamiliar with the area with some cloud cover.

I guess he fancied doing a tribute to those fine USAAF colleagues who performed the Doolittle raid back in 1941. Just hope he doesn't try it on an actual aircraft carrier next time.
