Question Boeing 737 MAX.....hmmmm....

I was checking out Boeing's site for the new 737 Max and noticed that there seems to be a new contour, ie. bump where the nosegear is stowed. Has the nose gear been lowered necessitating a small blister to house a taller strut to affect a level passenger cabin floor, as airbus has done with it A330-2OOF? The big bus has a very pronounced housing compared to Boeing' slimmer silhouette.

By the by, the new winglets on the MAX look downright evil. Let's see how long it takes the sharklet concept to "magically morph" to the bold look that the MAX will show off.

It is an awesome looking plane! I cannot wait to see it debut. The winglets are my favorite part.

Boeing has also secured an order from United Airlines for the MAX.

That's the part I hate the most about the new 737max. Good for the efficiency and economy, but they just look wrong. More like the MD-11 winglets(which look good on it btw), the 737max is loosing the very sleek and elegant look it had for quite a few years now with these NG winglets.

There's no doubt it's going to be a great aircraft, however what bothers me is an article I read on Airliners.net last night about the specs of said aircraft, now at the moment the 737-800 can accommodate 189 pax (or the ones I work with can) in the article I read it said the max-8 can take up to 162, now surely that's a mistake.

With the 737 almost hitting the 200 pax mark; it's quite a contrast to the stretch eight which had about the same passenger load. The stretch 8, had a max of 251, but don't believe UAL, DL, National, etc. ever had that arrangement. Will have to dig out my seating charts.

Thumbs up Re: Boeing 737 MAX.....hmmmm....

I am really liking the computer images of the MAX. I know it hasn't even been designed/built yet but I can't help but drool over the video of the Virtual 737 MAX in flight . I'm very happy that they are continuing with the classic 737 look but still making some very modern improvements. It will be interesting to watch it take shape over the next few years, I have read up quite a bit on the MAX this week as it has been in the news a lot. I watched a video that Boeing put out as well and I remember at the end someone mentioned a rough timeline for the MAX. I think it would fly by 2015 and start being delivered by 2016.

Some really cool things I noticed about the MAX Rendering...
Well, it looks cool. The nose profile is sharp and the bulge for the nosegear is an interesting feature but it also looks good. The wings seem to flex considerably more than the NG (and I assume they will in real life too given the wing design on the 787 and 747-8). Those winglets look cool, at first I thought the design was a little scary, but it looks very sleek and I'm sure they will perform well. And lastly the engines are pretty noticeable in comparison with the NG. They look bigger and beefier than the CFM56-7, I assume they will be a GEnx model instead of the CFM Series. I also assume the max will sit higher off the ground to accommodate the larger engines (since the CFMs are pretty low to the ground). Anyways, much cooler looking, much beefier so far! My current favourite a/c is the 737-800 but I think when the -8 MAX comes into the world it will most likely replace it.

Yes, I already have an image of what Airbus has secretly been planning!

MAX is looking good as is the NEO. I am excited to see these new narrow bodies take to the skies.

Herb, to answer your original question...

From what I've read, the nose gear strut will be lengthened, which is necessitating the blister you see on the lower nose. The 8-inch stretch is simply to meet ground clearance requirements for the new engines that are going on the MAX since the main gear will basically remain the same as on the NGs. As a result, the MAX won't have that pronounced "dragster" look that the NGs have.
