Dulles 6/14/12 - Stressful/Exciting/Frustrating Day (Image Heavy)
This was definitely the most frustrating start to a spotting outing I've ever had. I left my house at 2, and hit the Beltway at 2:30, and sat in traffic for about an hour before reaching the airport. As I was sitting in traffic, they changed landings to the North - which meant no 1R takeoffs, which is what I went for.... Anyway as I pulled in, I noticed a massive 777 sitting at Cargo 6 - which is right next to the road. It was a Ceiba Intercontinental 777LR. I was beyond excited. There were some men guarding it so I snapped a few pictures and quickly left. I then went over the warehouses near 19C. After an hour of sitting they changed to southern ops, which meant 1R takeoffs. I headed over to the Terminal, called operations, and set up on Parking garage 1 with beautiful light.
Traffic at 2:30:

After the nice light, a massive cloud came over and literally did not move for a half hour. I noticed all the internationals beginning to taxi to 1R, and could not have been more pissed. As soon as the KLM A333 took off, the cloud moved and I had beautiful light.

I'm not sure, but I would guess yes based on the 737 sitting there too. He is known to be here a lot.

Ceiba International is an airline of Guinea Equatorial, but went on financial problems an the government "adopted" the 777 for their personal use.

These are great shots, and better is the spotter's reference - parking garage 1... Many years ago, I used to shoot from the IAD observation deck off the main terminal, but that was then... A couple of months ago, I went to IAD to spot, and I was working the access roads around the airport, including the main road leading to the Udvar-Hazy Smithsonian, and got hassled to death - not worth it - I'll try your garage. Also, on June 6th, my wife and I flew SK 925, CPH to IAD on OY-KBM - good ride. Later, Doug
