Default Bankrupt airlines 2012

Not in any particular order or sequence except closing date:

7. Norfolk Airlines - ceased ops February 17 2012 (?)

.....

Hope this thread dies soon but does not look like it. Many airlines are on their death bed

Yes, IAG will "integrate" BMI on 20.4.2012, so they are the 13th then:

13. BMI British Midland International 1949-2012

Jet is a very good airline! I flew with them from Delhi to Mumbai back in 2005, on the then-new B739, I was amazed at the level of service

Filing for reorganization isn't the same as closing business. AA is still very much alive.

Apparently, Aerosur was taken over by the government and is up and running again. Here's Sharko landing on the other runway today at IAD. This is the second time it's landed on the other runway ....this plane is killing me!

Well, the title is 'bankrupt'. AA is bankrupt. so is Pinnacle.

probably the intent here is to list airlines that cease to exist, but then Pinnacle should not be on the list.

4. Malev - March 29 1946 - February 3 2012 (66)
5. USA3000 - 2001-January 30 2012 (11)

13: Skyways Express Sweden 1993- 22.05.2012 (so does it subisidiary City Airline)

Deathbed patients continue on their deathbed. No change so for.

Good news: Mexicana may resume ops in 2012 after "Med Atlantica had acquired the shares of its holding company and thus becomes the new owner of the grounded airline. The group hopes to relaunch MX in 2012. It must now seek bankruptcy court approvals and agreements with the creditors."

Due to continued reorganisation at the LH-Group, following changes are foreseen:

Candidates 14-15 for 2012
BMI will brand will be discontinued shortly by IAG as well
Austrian Airlines ops will be transferred to Tyrolean as of 01.07.2012

First candidate for 2013
Lauda Air brand will be discontinued in Su13

A look at the past (2011)
Jade Cargo to shortly file for insolvency, had ceased ops on 31.12.2011.
Lufthansa Italia had cease ops in late 2011 as well

They are going to wait for the presidential elections (july) to do something.
The root of the problem with the airline is the labor union, they demand too much, and if they don't solve this I can't see the airline flying anytime soon.

In Spring, when I visited Miami for the zillionth time this year, I was overjoyed to actually see a Mexicana 767-200 parked on the ground that wasn't there two months before in January. I remember flying Mexicana on the MIA-CUN-MIA trip in the A318, it was an amazing experience with overfriendly flight crew! Hope they get back up soon

oh wow. I think it was universally expected to happen, but maybe not this soon.

I hope the employees can catch on somewhere quickly.

to be clear, this is comair (delta connection), not comair south africa.

I like to add, if I may 'disappearance' of Continental airlines, my true favorite. I just can't understand the 'UNITED' logo on the Continental blue-tail livery. Also, anyone know what's up with Air Jamaica and Carribean Airlines? Thankfully, I see sometimes both airlines at the airport here in Ft. Lauderdale in Florida. Hopefully Mexicana will start up soon.

Yes, an absolutely horrible year for Star Alliance in Europe so far!

Spanair - ceased to exist
Cirrus Airlines (LH Regional airline) - ceased to exist
Cimber Sterling (SAS Regional airline) - ceased to exist
BMI British Midland International - left the alliance and ceases to exist in Oct
BMI Regional - left the alliance, re-branded soon
Contact Air - left LH Regional and ceased to exist (F100s went to OLT Germany)

plus there are quite some candidates to be next.. I wonder why Star Alliance suffers that hard right now.. To me it always was the strongest alliance..

36. Nigeria Airways - suspends ops for 1 year starting Sep 2012.
It will be quite a herculean task for the ex-Virgin franchisee to get going again.
