Default Trans Air Link CV-580 Ditched

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Dec. 7 - NTSB investigators were on the scene Friday
morning, trying to
determine what caused a small twin engine
plane to crash into the shallow Atlantic waters near
Miami Beach Thursday night.

The plane went down in rough surf near
Sunny Isles Beach and was being pushed by waves toward
the shoreline Friday. The pilot and
co-pilot first held onto the semi-submerged plane's wing, then
made for shore and were helped by police
and firefighters.

Police say the pair suffered "only minor
cuts and scratches." Both were taken to Aventura Hospital
for treatment.

The plane, a converted vintage airliner
once capable of carrying up to 55 passengers, had operated
as a cargo plane for some time. It was en
route for a short flight from Fort Lauderdale to
Opa-Locka when it came down in the water,
approximately 200 yards off shore.

Boaters and beachgoers were being asked to
stay away from the area where the plane went down,
so investigators and salvers could work the
scene Friday and check for any fuel leaks.

Stay tuned to NBC 6 for continuing coverage
of this developing story.

Talking

Recognized the neighborhood... grew up and went to high school not far from Sunny Isles. Been years since I've been there though.

Funny news description; a CV-580 is not really a small aircraft!

They were on their way back from margaritaville and forgot about the FAA's 8 hour bottle-throttle rule.
